how do i get on the pond?How should I approach this? Ok, I am a goalie who has played at the US college hockey level and played junior C for the Syracuse Stars in Syracuse N.Y. The last time I played puck was back in 1997 in a men’s league in Summit county Colorado. Now it is 2006, and I am 30 years old and have been living in Shanghai for about 3 years now. You can attend pick-up
You can attend pick-up hockey with minimal equipment, at your own risk obviously. If you don't even have skates, well, you'll have to have someone send them from home, some who's travelling buy some for you, or pick some up in another country when you travel. There are equipment shops in many major Asian cities. There's not really anything for sale in Shanghai.
Once you have skates, a helmet, and whatever else you deem necessary, just show up on pick-up days. You can also just show up and check it out on any day.
